CTA

The Cherenkov Telescope Array is the next generation very-high-energy gamma-ray instrument. CTA will have ten times improved sensitivity over the present generation of Cherenkov telescope arrays like VERITAS. The accessible energy will also be significantly improved from a few ten GeV to 100 TeV beyond what is presently possible with ground based instruments.

It is expected that CTA will detect more than 1000 VHE sources, ten times more than are known to date. CTA will have a significant impact on indirect searches for dark matter and various other fundamental physics and cosmology topics like Lorentz Invariance, evolution of the universe after the epoch of reionization, primordial magnetic fields.

Our involvement in CTA includes the development of the focal plane of a novel telescope type and the characterization of photon detectors.
